2013

The 2nd Fish 4 Kidz event

After the success of our first Fish 4 Kidz in 2012, it was time get the committee back together and organize  another one..

The second "Fish 4 Kidz" was held on Sunday 28th April 2013.

Here is a copy of the 2013 Fish 4 Kidz poster

This year we decided it would be better to do the booking in upstairs in the club, it would be much better than getting blown around outside.

We decided to hold it a little bit later than last year for a couple of reasons;

Better Weather, more Fish, 2 weeks before, there were so many Plaice and Dabs, it was crazy, where did they go?.

Well we tried. There were 68 children booked into the event, 59 turned up on the day, and 14 of those caught fish.

Sponsors & Thank you's

Barney Wright rang me after the event to say he was sorry he didn't get there, but he couldn't make it due to unforeseen circumstances, but "Total Sea Fishing" magazine sent goody bags and said they wanted to be at the 2014 event.

We had "TIGHT LINES" from "SKY TV" there this year (wow), Rob and the crew were well impressed. Mick Brais (producer) says it looks great. They even managed to get a bit of footage of fish being landed, one by my grandson, (Callum) he caught a Bullhead. The show was on Sky Sports on Friday 17th May at 7pm.

The prizes were kindly donated by "Pure Fishing",

Stephen Lloyd (MP) did us proud again with presenting the prizes. Stephen supplied a trophy this year, THE MP'S CUP, this was won by Callum Jones, Congratulations Callum. Also his assistant (Stephen Holt) was a great help by informing the schools and writing a report for the paper.

"Sufix" donated spools of line for the prizes.

Thanks to Glyn Morgan of the "Anglers Den", we had a new sponsor this year. "Dragon Signs" printed a load of white T' Shirts for us to lend out to all the stewards, the T' Shirts looked great with the "Fish 4 Kidz" logo on the front and on the back is the word "STEWARD" in big red letters.

Tony Kirrage of "Tony's Tackle" donated some DVD's for the prizes

We gained another big sponsor this year, "ROVEX/MASTERLINE", they gave us 30 rod and reel sets for use on the day. Brilliant.

The "RNLI" brought both the in shore and off shore Lifeboats close for us, and gave us a wave. The RNLI also donated a load of  informational sheets, booklets and pencils etc to the children's goody bags.

Because Stephen Lloyd was donating a trophy, Steve Frost asked Bob (Engraver of the Eastbourne Nomads trophies), the owner of "BFJ Engraving LTD" if he would donate a free engraving for the trophy. Bob said if someone made a voucher, he would engrave the trophy.

Paul Parson (on Nomads Committee) owner of "P.P.H. Plumbers LTD" said that he would like to contribute to our event, he gave a cash contribution so steve could buy picture frames, paper, card, ink etc.

The caterers at the "Eastbourne Angling Association" at the time were called "The Good Fillers", not only did they make a good breakfast in the morning, but they also put on a lovely, tasty barbeque after the event. Also thanks to the Eastbourne Angling Association for the use of their facilities.

A lot of input and assistance was put into running this event by Arran Aghili of AT Tackle at end of Eastbourne Pier

Because our donators of crisps had pulled out, Steve Frost spoke to "Booker", he didn't need to ask twice, they said they would willingly donate drinks and crisps/snacks for all the children.

The "Eastbourne Nomads Angling Club" allowed Steve to get whatever he needed to run this event and they also donated a FREE Nomads membership card to each child that entered.

The "Eastbourne Herald" gave "Fish 4 Kidz" coverage before and after the event.

Steve spoke to the manager of "Staples"  for a donation of identification card holders, they didn't give them for free, but they did give a nice discount. Every little helps.

The "Eastbourne Borough Council" once again gave all vehicles FREE PARKING for the duration of the event.

Also a BIG BIG THANK YOU to my wife, Chermaine Frost, for helping with the mountains of paperwork through running this event.

Everyone had an enjoyable time.Hopefully Fish 4 Kidz will carry on growing.

Above you can see 3 photograph's of a dad assisting his daughter in casting. In Fish 4 Kidz we want to teach the children about fishing, we shaow them how to bait up a hook, how to take fish off a hook (we don't allow children to do this on their own, because we don't want hooks in hands), but when it comes to the casting, we want and expect the children to take part, if the child cannot cast on their own, then the steward can assist, this involves the child and steward holding the rod together, and casting together, although the steward can control the reel, we do not allow the steward (or anyone else) to cast out for the children. The same with reeling in, we expect the children to reel in themselves, although they can be assisted.

The 3 photograph's have been put together to form a little video to show how we expect assisted casting to be done.

Rob Hughes came down to Eastbourne to cover Fish 4 Kidz for the program called "Tight Lines shown on SKY TV

World famous angler Jim Whippy (Fish 4 Kidz steward) writes a page for "Sussex Angling Media"

So, that was the second Fish 4 Kidz event in 2013, was you there? did you enjoy it?
